Anthony Elanga Subjected to Online Racist Abuse After Missed Penalty Kick
As Manchester United have crashed out of the race for the FA Cup after a loss on penalties to Championship club, Middlesbrough on Friday with Anthony Elanga missing his spot-kick in the defeat; some aggrieved fans have taken to Instagram to drop vile racist abuse at him.
Elanga ballooned his shot over the bar to give Chris Wilder’s side a win that was celebrated in enthusiastic fashion by a 9,000-strong visiting support at Old Trafford.
All manner of racist abuse was later sighted on his Instagram page after some fans blamed him for making such a costly mistake that has cost the team a chance at winning the FA cup this season.
A spokesperson for Meta, the company which owns Instagram, where the abuse took place, said it has already removed a number of comments on Elanga’s page and its investigation is ongoing.
After the game, Aberdeen striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas tweeted screenshots to highlight the racist abuse Elanga received on Instagram and said “Sooo easy to predict… “.
Elanga is not the only one to be subjected to all kind of online racist abuse, other players like Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Busayo Saka, have suffered thesame fate.
Premier Clubs are also putting measures in place to curb such ugly situations to the barest minimum.
