Blessing Oborududu Wins Silver Medal in the Tokyo Olympics

Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu has won the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics Women’s freestyle 68kg wrestling after suffering a 1-4 loss to 28 year-old Tamyra Marianna Stock Mensah of the United States in the final of Tokyo Olympic women’s wrestling event to claim a silver medal.

With Blessing’s medal, Nigeria now has two medals in the Tokyo Olympics, a bronze and a silver.

32 year-old Oborududu has won a Gold medal at the African Wrestling Championships every year for the last 11 years, except for 2012 when she did not enter due to competing in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

She is the first Nigerian to reach the final of a wrestling event at the Olympics and she did so in style, beating 2012 bronze medallist Battsetseg Soronzonbold of Mongolia by an impressive 7-2 scoreline.
