Boko Haram terrorists retook Damasak yesterday, Monday, which is the headquarters of the Mobbar Local Government Area LGA, of Borno state, after they reportedly evicted Nigerian security forces.
Sources reported that the insurgents stormed Damasak on Sunday night in a convoy of armed trucks loaded with improvised explosive devices, and rocket-propelled grenades used to overwhelm troops at their base before taking control of the city, as hundreds of residents were trapped and others. fled for safety.
Damasak, a city on the border with the Republic of Niger, is located about 160 clicks north of Maiduguri, the capital of the state that had suffered several attacks by terrorist groups.
Other unconfirmed reports indicated that dozens of insurgents were neutralized, some civilians from security agencies were said to have lost their lives and dozens were missing in the Damasak invasion.
A security source had indicated yesterday that: “There is a sign that the Boko Haram terrorists are gaining control and maintaining their presence in the city of Damasak after the attack on the military formation in the city.
“Most likely they will target the United Nations (UN) humanitarian center if the military does not review them urgently. The incident may affect helicopter service to the city tomorrow (today)”.
Recall that the spiritual leader of the terrorist group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, had threatened more attacks through an audio message recently.
