BREAKING: Senate Confirms Appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya as COAS

The Senate has on Tuesday June 22 confirmed the nomination of Major General Farouk Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari announced his appointment.

. The confirmation of Yahaya followed the presentation and consideration of the report of the Joint Senate Committee on Defence and Army at plenary led by its Chairman, Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Ali Ndume. 

General Yahaya has been serving as COAS on acting capacity following the death of his predecessor, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash in Kaduna.
