“IF NOT FOR OUR INTERVENTION THE INEC HEADQUARTER IN ENUGU WOULD HAVE BEEN BURNT DOWN COMPLETELY” SAYS CHIEF FIRE OFFICER.

The timely intervention of the Fire Service saved the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters from burning down completely. Said Mr Okwudili Ohaa, the Chief Fire Officer of Enugu State.

On Monday 17th of May 2021, Ohaa was interrogated by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu. he  said about five INEC operational vehicles were burnt completely and one was partially burnt and at about 10:30pm the firefighters from the state’s fire service were able to put off the fire, which broke out at 9:30pm.

“Our timely intervention saved INEC headquarters Enugu from burning completely”.

“We were able to quench the fire immediately as it tried to spread to the main building of the INEC Headquarters.

“It only gutted two seats, probably visitors’ seats at the corridors upstairs,’’ said Okwudili Ohaa.

This foiled attack comes few days after the INEC office in Obollo-Afor, Udenu was razed by fire.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that unidentified hoodlums were behind the foiled attempt to set the Enugu INEC Headquarters ablaze.

ASP Daniel Ndukwe said a full investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the attack.
