IGP Orders Investigation into Allegations Against Abba Kyari by Hushpuppi
Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has now ordered an internal review into the allegations leveled against Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, alleging that he received some amount of money from internet fraudster, Abbas Ramon, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
The police spokesman, CP Frank Mba, made the disclosure in a statement shared on the official Facebook page of the force on Thursday, July 29.
The statement indicates that further developments on this case will be communicated to the public.
Mba also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI.
During his trial, Hushpuppi had alleged that he bribed Abba Kyari to arrest a co-fraudster and rival named Chibuzo Vincent after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari businesspeople.
Meanwhile, Otis Wright of the US District Court for the Central District of California directed that the FBI find Kyari and bring him to America over his role in a multi-million dollar fraud carried out by Hushpuppi.
The US court documents had indicated that Kyari, allegedly sent account details to Hushpuppi, to deposit money for the arrest and imprisonment of Huspuppi’s associate, Chibuzo Vincent. Vincent was named in the release as one of those who conspired to defraud a Qatari businessperson of more than $1.1 million.
