Man Stabs Chief Imam to Death in Niger State Over Alleged Illicit Affairs With His Wife

The Niger State Police Command has arrested one Umar Jibril, for the alleged murder of an Imam whom he claimed was having an affair with his wife.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna Mr Adamu Usman, the Niger Police commissioner said Jibril who is a resident of Enagi village, in Edati Local Government of the state, was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed one Alhaji Attahiru Alhassan, the Chief Imam of Edagi, to death, with an iron rod.

Jibril during interrogation, claimed that he caught the deceased with his second wife, Aishatu Umar at his neighbour’s house adding that he immediately left the scene and rushed to a brother, one Abubakar Abdulrahman, to inform him of what he had seen.

He further explained that the Imam sent for him afterwards in order to sort things out but the discussion went south as the argument became a heated one which caused him to stab the deceased on the neck with an iron rod , leading to his demise.

The Police commissioner said that the suspect took to his heels after the incident and was pursued to Batati village in Lavun Local Government area, where he was arrested.

“Investigation has commenced and the suspect will be arraigned, as soon as the investigation is completed,” he said
