New Report Claims Bill Gates Was Having an Affair While Still Married to Melinda
Weeks after Bill and Melinda Gates announced plans of ending their 27 years marriage, new report claims that Bill was having an affair with a Microsoft Engineer which sparked internal investigations.
According to the Wall Street Journal, some members of the Board of Directors thought the co-founder should leave the board, but he resigned before the probe could be completed and now claims his exit had nothing to do with the matter, the Journal said. “There was an affair almost 20 years ago which ended amicably,” a Gates spokeswoman said.
The report comes hours after The New York Times reported that while Gates was married to his wife, Melinda, he was known to “pursue” multiple women he worked with, citing a 2006 incident in which Gates attended a presentation by a Microsoft employee and then emailed a dinner invitation, writing, “If this makes you uncomfortable, pretend it never happened.” An unidentified woman who worked for the Gates Foundation told the Times that, in 2007 or 2008, Gates popped a question at a cocktail party: “I want to see you. Will you have dinner with me?” Some employees said his behavior created an uncomfortable atmosphere.
In their divorce filings, Melinda, who now bears the name Melinda French Gates, was said to have written that the 27-year-old marriage was ‘irretrievably broken’.
The Microsoft founder’s ex-wife got a transfer of $1.8 billion (N684,900,000,000) in Cascade Investment on Monday, May 3, on the same day they made their divorce public to the media. With the wealth allocation, the former wife of the tech giant is now richer as Gates’ fortune takes a mild hit. It should be noted that despite the fall in his wealth, Bill is still the world’s fourth-richest person with a net worth of $128.6 billion (N48,856,200,000,000).
