Nigeria Basketball Team D’Tigers Pays Tribute to Late Veteran Singer Sound Sultan in Emotional Way
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) paid a tribute to late veteran musician, Sound Sultan by dedicating the win recorded by D’Tigers, after they thrashed Argentina on Monday, July 12, 2021. The players also rocked white t-shirts that had been customised with an image of the late singer as long as observing a minute silence in his honour by taking a knee.
The D’Tigers in preparation for the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics won 94-71 over fourth-ranked Argentina in an exhibition in Las Vegas.
This victory is coming hours after they shocked the basketball world with a 90-87 win over Team USA who are known to have the best NBA players.
Shortly after the win, NBBF took to social media to dedicate Nigeria’s big wins against the USA and Argentina to the late veteran musician, Sound Sultan who was passionate about basketball during his lifetime.
“We dedicate the victories against US & Argentina to late Olanrewaju Fasasi (@Soundsultan). You saw this day coming when Nigeria would become a dominant force in global basketball. Ironically, the day we won against @usabasketball, was when you gave up the ghost. RIP,” NBBF wrote.
“We lost a member of our family this week. D’Tigers will honor the great Sound Sultan with these warm up shirts tonight. RIP. Your legacy will live forever.”
Sound Sultan died after a long battle with throat cancer on Sunday, July 11, which coincidentally fell on the same day the national basketball team defeated the United States in an exhibition game ahead of Tokyo Olympics.
