Security Agencies Ordered by FG to Shoot Anyone Wielding AK-47
In a bid to checkmate the level of insecurity in the country especially in the Northern part, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered security agencies to shoot anyone carrying lethal weapons such as AK-47.
Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, made this known in an interview with the BBC Hausa service. He said that, “the president has ordered security forces to go into the bushes and shoot whoever they see with sophisticated weapons like AK-47”.
While addressing the “No Fly Zone” declaration made in Zamfara state, Shehu explained that the decision was made after it was gathered that arms were being transported to the bandits through private jets.
He further noted that the jets were being used to carry gold mined in the state to Dubai, prompting the federal government to halt mining activities in the state.
“These jets are being used to pick up gold that is being mined in some parts of Zamfara and exported. This is strong because at the moment, there is a Nigerian gold market in Dubai.
“The government is losing, the people of this country are losing, that’s why it is said that gold mining is banned for those who are not made by the government,” He added.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum and Borno State Governor, Prof.Babagana Zulum, has called on the federal government to hire foreign mercenaries who would aid in combating the activities of these bandits and also adopt new military approaches that would ensure that normalcy returns to the state. He said this during the opening ceremony of the fourth meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum in Bauchi.
Zulum reiterated that the government must demonstrate its commitment to ending the current insecurity ravaging the north-east and other parts of the country.
