Singer Seyi Shay Called Out For Wrong Choice of Words in Nigerian Idol Audition
Nigerian singer and a judge at the on-going sixth season of the Nigerian Idol, Seyi Shay has been criticised by fans and viewers of the show for verbal abuse after she told a 17- year old contestant who auditioned for the show that he would never make money being a singer.
After his performance, she said to him:
“I am laughing at the fact that I just can’t believe what I just heard.”
“Somebody lied to you and told you to come and audition, and that person, you should go back and tell them they’re not your friends because that was not good audition. “Oh, you have a good talking voice, and it comes out in your singing voice, but your performance, terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer”.
She ended her judgement by saying, “I love you, you’re so sweet but you’re not a singer. If it’s songwriting, hit me up, we’ll talk. But that singing thing, it’s not going to work.”
This sparked a lot of reactions by social media users as many condemned her choice of words, noting that there were better ways to pass her message across.
In her reply, Seyi Shay tweeted;
I’m feeling like #JudgeJudy right now. You either LOVE her OR you HATE her, and that’s quite ALRIGHT! Either way, Thanks for the #1 trend tweeps
The contestant in question with the Twitter handle @ayotorrus, has equally taken to his Twitter page to retweet the video of Seyi giving him feedback after his audition and wrote: “This broke me Emotionally and Psychologically, but God got me !!”
