#TwitterBan: APC National Youth Leader Says Twitter is Suspended Not Banned

National Youth Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Ismaeel Ahmed, has reiterated that the Federal Government did not ban micro-blogging site, Twitter, in Nigeria, but rather, suspended its operations in the country for the time being.

He stated this on Wednesday, June 9, during a press conference on the forthcoming national progressive youth conference at the party’s secretariat in Abuja

His words; “So, whatever it is that the government felt to suspend Twitter, not even ban, there was a suspension and of course, there is a conversation going on between the government and the representatives of Twitter and I’m sure it will be resolved.”

He further stressed that Twitter’s suspension was as a result of their interference in the activities of Nigeria as a sovereign nation as they crossed the boundary when they deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet on their platform, adding that their suspension did not affect other social media platforms in the country because they are fully active.

‘’The government didn’t ban social media as a lot of people will insinuate. It is very important that we know that because Facebook is still in operation, Instagram is still in operation, WhatsApp is still in operation, and a lot of other social media platforms are still in operation.’’ Ahmed said.
