Woman Gives Birth to Nine Babies at Once, Enters World Records
A 25 year-old Malian lady, Halima Cisse has on Tuesday, given birth to nine children, nonuplets, in a single delivery.
Halima’s pregnancy had attracted the attention of the Malian government in March when an ultrasound scan showed she had seven babies in her womb.
This prompted them to fly her to Morocco for proper medical attention, where she also gave birth to five girls and four boys in a single delivery through a caesarean section handled by professional doctors.
“The newborns (five girls and four boys) and the mother are all doing well,” Mali’s health minister, Fanta Siby, confirmed her safe delivery in a statement.
Nonuplets are extremely rare. Medical complications in multiple births of this kind often mean that some of the babies do not reach full term.
Cisse has joined a small pantheon of mothers of nonuplets on world record.
